getting back in the groove after a writing break
August 26th, 2008Good habits of any sort can be tough for me to form, but once I’ve found a groove things get easier. Then something happens, like going out of town somewhat last minute to be with family, and my groove goes flying out the window. Letting go of a good habit is a bad habit of mine.
I could have worked a little harder while I was in Connecticut to write a little each day. I could have worked a little harder to reestablish my writing habits upon my return. I should have.
I will forgive myself for not writing while in Connecticut. I spent the time with people whom I love and don’t see very often, even if some of that time was spent watching the Olympics on TV when I really would have preferred to do other things. But I went to a great local comic book store with my 15-year-old cousin, and afterwards we exchanged books and expanded our horizons. I introduced her to the Marvel comics world with Emma Frost, and she introduced me to Manga with Fullmetal Alchemist. I was pleasantly surprised by the Manga… once I got the hang of reading right to left, the story and artwork drew me in.
But now I’ve been back in Utah for almost a week and am going to concentrate on my writing goals. The first step: Updating this blog. Second step: Prioritizing all of the writing and writing-related tasks I want to do. Third step: Write!
