First query letter sent to local newspaper

July 3rd, 2008

It’s “just” to the local newspaper, but it is done. I have officially submitted my first official query letter and I am nervous as hell.

I waited more than 24 hours after writing it to make sure that the portfolio and clips it linked to were of good quality, and I tweaked a couple little things in the letter. My husband, Ben, thought it was a good letter so that gives me some extra confidence.

And now I suppose that I have entered the waiting game that all writers must perpetually face when they put themselves out there. Gah.

If I get this article assigned, or if I get another newspaper assignment because of this query, then I am confident that it will be an excellent start for my portfolio. That will be nice.

Well, it’s been a few minutes. Why hasn’t the editor responded yet?!? Hoo boy, this waiting game is going to be hard to adjust myself to.
